In a major blow, pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar was ruled out of the third Test against New Zealand due to a back strain and The All-India Senior Selection Committee have named medium pacer Shardul Thakur as the replacement for injured pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the Indian Team.
Bhuvneshwar sustained the injury during the second Test in Kolkata, in which he took six wickets including a five-wicket haul in the first innings. Bhuvneshwar’s feat in Kolkata was his fourth five-wicket haul in his 15th Test and also his first on home soil.
This is Thakur’s second call-up to the Indian Test side, Mumbai seamer Thakur earned his first call-up to the squad during India’s tour of the West Indies in July-August but is yet to play a Test match.
Bhuvneshwar played a vital role in India’s win at Eden Gardens, taking six wickets in the match.
Meanwhile, Ishant Sharma has been ruled out of the series because he is suffering from chikungunya. There have been replacements galore for India this season as Karun Nair has already replaced injured opener Shikhar Dhawan (left thumb fracture) and Gautam Gambhir has made his comeback into the Indian team replacing an injured KL Rahul (hamstring).
